About the Book

Killing Shore: The True Story of Hitler’s U-boats Off the New Jersey Coast was researched and written over three years beginning in January 2021. It tells the story of Nazi Germany’s submarine campaign in the Western Hemisphere, with a focus on events in and near New Jersey.

Parts I and III explain how and why the U-boats came to the United States and how they were ultimately defeated. Part II (the main story) provides a seafarer’s-eye perspective of combat incidents that occurred along the Jersey Shore. This is a work of nonfiction. All characters are real people, and no facts have been changed insofar as they are known.

Primary sourcespatrol logs, POW interrogation records, etcwere utilized to reconstruct action sequences in detail. The author was also generously assisted by descendants of the book’s characters, subject matter experts, and a Merchant Marine combat veteran of World War II. Portrayals of combat and survival are interwoven with the cultural, military, economic, and technological dimensions of the Atlantic campaign.

Killing Shore is currently available in e-book and hardcover, and an audiobook is under development
